Germany is known for having the strictest passport photo requirements among all Schengen countries.

Size: 35mm x 45mm

Face height: 32-36mm (chin to crown)

Head centered with 2-4mm space above the head

Light gray background (strict, white is not accepted)

No patterns, gradients, or shadows

Uniform color across the entire background

Neutral expression with mouth closed

Both eyes fully open and visible

No glasses recommended (since 2017)

Ears should be visible when possible

No head tilt, face must be perfectly straight

Background not the correct shade of gray

Shadows on the face or background

Eyes partially closed or covered by hair

Glasses with glare or thick frames

Face too small or too large in the frame

Photo older than 6 months

Remove glasses completely for the safest option

Ensure ears are visible by tucking hair behind them

Use flat, even lighting to avoid any shadows

Wear a dark top that contrasts with the gray background
