Standard Schengen Visa Photo Requirements

All 27 Schengen countries follow the same base requirements for visa photos, based on ICAO 9303 and EU standards.

Physical size: 35mm x 45mm (1.38 x 1.77 inches)

Digital size: 413px x 531px at 300 DPI (minimum)

Print resolution: Minimum 600 DPI recommended

Light gray (#E8E8E8) is the standard for most countries

White (#FFFFFF) is accepted by Italy, Spain, Greece, and several others

Must be plain, uniform, with no patterns or shadows

Face must cover 70-80% of the photo height

Chin to crown should measure 32-36mm

Eyes at approximately 60% height from the bottom

Head centered horizontally with equal space on both sides

Neutral expression with mouth closed

Both eyes open and clearly visible

No sunglasses or tinted lenses

No head coverings (religious exceptions permitted)

Full color photograph in sRGB color space

JPEG or PNG format

File size: 50 KB to 10 MB

Sharp focus, no blur or pixelation

No red-eye or digital alterations to facial features

Country-Specific Variations

Germany: Strictest enforcement, ears visible preferred

France: Specific head position range

Finland: Slightly larger format (36x47mm)

Spain: Some consulates accept 50x50mm
